11 Times Beauty is Definitely Pain

As far as being a girl goes, experiencing pain in the name of beauty is practically a right of passage.

  1. Getting your eyebrows waxed
  2. Poking your eyeball with the mascara wand
  3. Burning your neck with a curling iron
  4. Pounding headaches from too tight updos
  5. Pulling your eyelashes out with an eyelash curler
  6. Wearing heels for hours on end
  7. Squats… enough said
  8. Cutting yourself shaving
  9. Dying of heat stroke when blow drying your hair
  10. Getting mascara all over the eyeshadow that you spent thirty minutes blending (okay this one isn’t actually physically painful, it’s worse)
  11. Wearing huge earrings all night

As much as girls (myself DEF included) like to complain about these things, there’s not a chance that I’ll stop doing any of them anytime soon.

Gypsea Jewels

Hey y’all,

It’s one of my absolute favorite times of the year… SPRING BREAK. I’m in sunny St. Augustine, Florida spending time with my family. Words of Wisdom : MLK Day

Today’s holiday is observed in celebration of the life, achievements, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King is one of the most inspiring public figures in all of history. He worked tirelessly and peacefully throughout the Civil Rights movement. While Dr. King is often remembered for his legendary “I Have a Dream” speech, he also has countless other noteworthy quotes that are fantastic to look to for guidance in our everyday lives.

  1. “Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.”
  2. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.”
  3. “The time is always right, to do what is right.”
  4. “Only in darkness can you see the stars”
  5. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?”

So while you’re having a lazy day and binge watching your favorite show on the couch, make sure to take a few moments and reflect on Dr. King’s legacy.

7 Things to Enjoy This Holiday Season

The holiday season often goes by in a blur. It isn’t uncommon to find yourself on December 26th wondering where it all went. I love everything about Christmas, but there are a few special things that often go overlooked. As you go through the rest of this month, be sure to take a minute and appreciate these seven things.

  • The Gift of Giving

Giving is one of the most rewarding things in this world. Seeing the joy on the faces of others is one of my favorite parts of Christmas.

  • Christmas Cookies

There is just something so fun and festive about decorating Christmas cookies and feeling absolutely no guilt eating one…… or ten.

  • Quality Time With Friends and Family

Christmas is one of the best times of year to spend time with loved ones. The holiday brings people together in such a special way.

  • Ugly Sweaters

This is the one month a year that it is completely and totally acceptable to wear the tackiest sweater you can find. I absolutely love hunting for crazy Christmas sweaters.

  • Hot Chocolate

There isn’t much that is better than hot chocolate on a cold winter day. You can make your hot cocoa extra festive with marshmallows and candy cane bits on top.

  • Christmas Movies (Elf is one of my favorites!)

I love curling up by the fire to watch my favorite Christmas movies. From Elf to Santa Clause, I absolutely adore them all.

  • Traditions

There is just something about the novelty of family traditions, and however corny they may be they’re still special. The holiday season makes it perfectly acceptable to do anything corny or silly in the name of Christmas.

Be sure to embrace these small things, and make the most of this holiday season!

Top Five MAC Lipsticks for Fall – Katie Nelson

Hi Smayb the Babe readers! I was so excited that Samantha asked me to guest blog this week! We’re both in the Seventeen Social Club so it was perfect for us to do a collab! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Katie Nelson and I’m a senior at the New England Institute of Art. I’m studying fashion, but I love anything and everything to do with beauty. If you’d like to check out my blog, visit www.katiebnelson.com.

Check out my top five MAC lipsticks for fall below!

Viva Glam III : It’s no surprise that I love my matte shades and this one is certainly a favorite of mine. It’s the perfect dark plum color for cool fall days.

VivaGlam1

Velvet Teddy (this product was currently out of stock at MAC so we have provided an alternate retailer) : Velvet Teddy is my favorite matte nude shade. If I ever can’t decide what to wear, I’ll reach for it. It’s also claimed to be Kylie Jenner’s lip color, so don’t expect anything less than perfection.

VelvetTeddy1

Twig (this product was currently out of stock at MAC so we have provided an alternate retailer) : Twig is a satin lipstick with a gorgeous red undertone. I love this color because it complements every skin tone and lasts all day.

Twig1

Diva  (this product was currently out of stock at MAC so we have provided an alternate retailer) : Diva is another matte shade, it’s a little darker than Viva Glam III with a purple undertone. If you’re trying to recreate a vamp lip, I highly recommend this one.

Diva1

Honey Love  (this product was currently out of stock at MAC so we have provided an alternate retailer) : All right, so everyone needs the perfect matte nude in their lip collection, right? Honey Love is that color for light to medium skin tones. It had great pigmentation, but doesn’t wash your lips out. To darken it up a bit, I recommend trying this shade with a slightly darker lip pencil such as MAC’s Spice.

HoneyLove1

Happy Lipstick shopping babes,

Katie

Alex and Ani… Major Arm Candy

Hey y’all,

Today the spotlight is on one of my favorite jewelry brands Alex and Ani. Alex and Ani really captures my attention because of how personal you can make your jewelry collection. The wide array of options and styles make it possible to customize your arm candy.  I’ll be highlighting four of my favorite gold bangles.

  1. Feather – The feather charm bracelet is so fun and playful. Furthermore, feathers represent values of charity, hope, and faith to Christians.
  2. Pineapple – Alex and Ani describes the pineapple bracelet as symbolizing welcome, warmth, and friendship. Pineapples are my favorite fruit and I love anything with a pineapple print. One of my good friends purchased this for me and I absolutely adore how it is possible to make a gift from Alex and Ani so thoughtful.
  3. Sailboat – A sailboat represents courage, ambition, and transition. Personally, I wear the sailboat to remind me of Camp Seafarer and the love I have for boating.
  4. Endless Knot – I wear the endless knot to remind me that love never ends and to never hesitate to give it away. You cannot possibly give away too much love and the endless knot reminds me of this.

The last piece of my #ArmCandy is a friendship bracelet made for me by my sweet campers. I never take it off because it serves as a constant reminder of those that I work hard to set a good example for. I may be obsessed with jewelry and Alex and Ani, but I am definitely more obsessed with my readers. Thanks for reading!

Stay Sparkly,

Samantha

Seventeen Social Club – L’Oreal Paris Summer Lights

Hey y’all,

As part of my work with the Seventeen Social Club, I got to try L’Oreal Paris Summer Lights Hair Lightening Gelée. This hair lightening product is foolproof and super easy to apply. You can apply it to wet or dry hair and then all you have to do is blow dry your hair. You can apply all over for full lightening or you can apply sparingly around the roots for perfect highlights.

I used the product once a week for four weeks. I applied it to wet hair and then blow dryed my hair. I ended up using the whole bottle over four weeks, but if your hair is shorter or thinner then you may use less.

At the end of the four weeks I was absolutely in love with my results. I will admit I was a little nervous to dye my hair myself and to lighten it, but the product worked beautifully. My before and after is below. The first photo was taken at the beginning of the four weeks and the second one was taken at the end.

I highly recommend L’Oreal Paris Summer Lights Hair Gelée. It worked wonderfully and definitely  exceeded my expectations.

Xoxo,

Samantha
